Article in Optimum Nutrition Spring 2007 by Professor Gibson Reading University More people in the UK visit their doctors with gastrointestinal complaints than anything else. Anything that can help to prevent y such complaints must be welcomed and the starting point is the simple premise that you can boost the beneficial flora at the expense of the harmful ones. The most obvious target audience for probiotics is anyone who experiences gastrointestinal o problems that can be treated by microrganisms…e.g. food poisoning, diarrhea in addition to people with IBS, Crones disease and bowel cancer The natural approach is relatively harmless and holds much promise Research carried out by Reading University in 2006 found in studies that autistic children had raised levels of “bad bacteria” clostridium in their faeces compared with non autistic children. After prescribing probiotics the results were generally very positive with children appearing to show fewer symptoms of autism when taking a daily dosage.
